Riverfront Gallery Row

Flagler Avenue runs down to the Riverwalk, and the last block before the water is five galleries in a row of storefronts that were a hardware store, a bank and a fish house before they were anything else. Gallery Row is a cooperative: a painter who works the lagoon in oils, a potter whose glazes come from local shell, a photographer of the sailfish fleet, a print shop that still runs a letterpress and a gallery of changing shows by artists from up and down the coast.
Each is small, each is run by the person whose work is on the wall and none charges to look. Prices run from a twenty-dollar print to paintings in the thousands, and most will ship. The second Friday of every month from October to May is the art walk, when the doors stay open until nine, the wine comes out and the Riverwalk at the end of the street fills with people carrying things wrapped in brown paper.
Mornings are the time to talk to the artists; the afternoons in season are for looking. Parking is in the city lot at the end of the street.
