Our aim
We want everyone to be able to use this guide, whatever device they read it on and whatever help they use to read it. The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA, and the theme it runs on is tested against them with every change.
What we have done
Text and backgrounds keep a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1, and controls at least 3 to 1. Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring, and a skip link goes straight to the content. Headings are in order, links say where they go, and nothing moves on its own or plays sound. Animation is reduced when your system asks for it. The site works at 400 per cent zoom and on a phone held either way.
Photographs
Every photograph has a description written by a person, not generated, and the credits page lists where each one came from. Decorative images are marked as decorative so a screen reader can skip them.
Known issues
The accordion on the itinerary pages and the tabs on some listing pages depend on the browser’s own support for those elements; very old browsers show the content open and unstyled, which still works. The weather table on the visitor information page scrolls sideways on a narrow screen; the figure caption says so. If you find something else, we want to know.
Tell us
If any part of the guide is hard to use, email the address on the contact page and say which page and what happened. We fix what we can within a week and say so here when we cannot.
